Welcome to cmorrowart.com, a digital gallery dedicated to the artistic legacy of Christine Morrow—a second-generation Cleveland photographer whose creativity was influenced by both personal vision and family heritage.
A Legacy Behind the Lens
Christine “Chris” Morrow was a proud native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a second-generation photographer who passionately pursued her art for nearly 30 years as a beloved hobby.
Growing up in Hough, a small, predominantly Black neighborhood on the city's east side, Christine was inspired by her father, William H. Jordan, a well-known portrait photographer within Cleveland’s African American community. He operated “Jordan Studio,” which thrived for over 50 years across three locations: Central Avenue, East 90th Street, and East 34th Street.
Photography was truly in her DNA. From elementary school onward, Christine exhibited a strong desire to draw and create. She was an independent thinker—driven, passionate, and determined.
She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Cuyahoga Community College in June 1978, followed by a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin-Wallace College in June 1981. However, it wasn't until she retired from a 25-year career in federal government service that she fully embraced her artistic dreams. Photography then became her creative outlet, allowing her lifelong desire to produce art to take center stage.
A Life in Art
In her free time, Christine explored her craft and let her imagination flourish. Transitioning from a chemical darkroom to a digital setup opened a new world of creativity. Her artistry thrived, and she found joy in capturing everything—from scenic landscapes to still life and portraits—always favoring the beauty of natural light.
Christine exhibited as a solo artist, participated in juried shows, and engaged in numerous group exhibitions, earning several awards for her remarkable work. Her art adorned the walls of prestigious Ohio galleries, including Ascherman, the Butler Institute of American Art, Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, Summit Art Space, The Little Art Gallery, and the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
Photographing from her heart and soul, Christine loved watching an image evolve from conception to completion.
Preserving a Legacy
Following Christine’s passing in 2022, her family established this site to honor her artistic legacy and share her work with new audiences. This digital gallery is more than just a showcase—it’s a tribute to a woman who lived creatively, independently, and with profound emotional insight.
We believe art should be experienced—not merely viewed. That’s why we provide realistic room mockups, thoughtful descriptions, and the stories behind each piece. We want visitors to envision Christine’s art in their own spaces, to feel the atmosphere it creates, and to understand the emotion and intention behind every image.
Whether you're a collector, a curator, or simply someone touched by her images, we invite you to explore, reflect, and connect.
